How to Write a QRQ

你曾寫過QRQ嗎？

For university students who want to hone their English reading, writing, and analytical skills, a QRQ (Quote-Response-Question) is a good way to start.

QRQ（Quote－Response－Question）對於想要訓練英文閱讀、寫作和分析能力的大學生來說，是一種很好的練習方式。

Begin by reading a short article you mostly understand, and find a quote that you resonate with. Respond to the quote in any way you want. Your response could include why the author wrote this quote, how you feel about it, and how it relates to your studies or practice. At the end of your response, come up with some questions that you will like to research further.

首先，請閱讀你大致能夠理解的短文，找到你最有共鳴的一句話作出回應。你的回答可能包含你認為作者寫這句話的原因、對這句話的感受，又或是這句話和自身學習或行動的關係。最後，請在結尾提出一些關於這篇文章的問題。

Doing a QRQ won’t automatically improve your reading and writing skills. You will need instruction and feedback from and preferably follow-up discussions with friends. However, doing this exercise can help you move beyond just summarizing and paraphrasing information.

光是執行QRQ並不會自動提高你的閱讀和寫作能力。你需要老師的指導和反饋 (guidance and feedback)，最好後續再和朋友討論。然而，做QRQ的練習除了可以做重點摘要外，它是個更能增進閱讀和寫作能力的好方法。

The activity requires you first to read the article thoroughly before analyzing the author’s intent for the quote. Writing a response in the next step will force you to think about how the quote relates to you, thereby enabling you to tap into higher-level thinking and produce original thoughts and questions.

這項活動需要你在分析作者寫出這段引文的意圖前，先去完整閱讀過並且充分理解文章。下一步寫的回應則是會迫使你去思考該引文與你的關係，進而讓你能夠深入思考、產出更多有創意的想法及問題。最後，當你寫完QRQ，請務必要校對「失誤」(mistakes)。你需要先刪掉你自己就可以找到的失誤，老師才能專注在你無法找到的「錯誤」 (errors) 。總結來說，「失誤」是偶發的且無規律性的錯誤，而「錯誤」是指學習者所犯的系統性錯誤 (systematic errors)。未來我會更進一步講解如何進行校對。

When you finish the QRQ, be sure to proofread it for any language errors. You want to eliminate every mistake you can find so that teachers can focus on the systematic errors you cannot find on your own. I will write more on how to proofread in the future.

當你寫完QRQ，請務必要校對錯誤。你需要先刪掉你自己就可以找到的錯誤，老師才能專注在你無法自己找到的系統性錯誤，未來我會針對如何進行校對更近一步說明。

Once you receive feedback from your teacher, which should include guidance on finding the answers to your questions and systematic language errors, you should review the feedback immediately. Find out what you could improve by researching and asking friends. Ask your teacher for help only when you’ve exhausted all other options.

當你收到來自老師的反饋，你應該馬上確認過這些內容，其中可能包括一些諸如問題答案和系統性語言錯誤的相關指引。透過研究和詢問朋友等方式，找出自己可以改進的地方。如此的學習更有效率。只有在萬不得已或不確定時再去詢問老師。

After review and correcting all the language errors, rewrite the QRQ. For an added challenge, rewrite it without looking at your original paper, though you may still refer to notes.

理解並訂正用語錯誤後，請再寫一次QRQ。如果想要給自己來點挑戰的話，嘗試重寫但不要看有反饋的原稿，不過還是可以翻閱自己的筆記。

See if you make the same language errors again. If you do, review and correct these errors again! The process will help you gradually understand systematic errors. With enough practice, you will eventually be able to reduce them. Writing the QRQ will also improve your ability to summarize, analyze, and synthesize new information, which are all abilities you need in both school and work.

看看自己是否又犯了一樣的語言錯誤，如果又寫錯了，請再去複習與訂正！這項步驟會幫助你逐漸抓到自己常犯的系統性錯誤；在足夠練習的情況下，你就會漸漸發現並且能夠糾正這些錯誤。寫QRQ也會增進做摘要、分析和綜合新資訊的能力，而這些都是你在學校和工作中必備的技能。

The best part about writing the QRQ is that you will have new perspectives on the article after going through the entire process. In addition, you can discuss your initial response and questions with your classmates and co-create new knowledge together. It’s a great way to practice reading and writing while doing some deep critical thinking!

寫QRQ的最大優點在於完成整個過程後，你將對該議題有新的看法。此外，你可以和同學討論自己最一開始的回應和疑問並一起創造新知。進行深入的批判性思考的同時，這是個練習閱讀和寫作的好方法！
