Have you ever seen the landmark film, Boyz in the Hood?

大家有看過《街區男孩》這部掀起種族議題電影風潮的重要作品嗎？

Although I grew up in LA around that period, I didn’t see the film until today. It was an impactful film, and brought to the forefront our conflicting opinions around the issues of race, inequality, and violence. Ever since the BLM, quite a few students have asked me about how we can work to resolve such issues. Is it even possible?

儘管當時我在洛杉磯長大，直到今天我才看了這部電影。這是一部影響深遠的電影，1991年推出後震驚美國社會，該片將種族、不平等與暴力議題的矛盾與衝突呈現在世人眼前。從「黑人的命也是命」運動（Black Lives matter, BLM）開始，就有不少學生問我，要如何解決這樣的議題，這些議題有可能解決嗎？

To be honest, no one has the answer. However, we can begin the dialogue by listening to authentic stories of minorities living in these neighborhoods rather than passing judgment. Instead of only telling the disadvantaged how they should live by our standards, perhaps it is best first to listen to them. Watch Boyz in the Hood if you want a glimpse into BLM, questions of race, relationships, violence, and future prospects.
